If you’ve spent any time looking at Feng Shui jewelry, you’ve already met the Pixiu (pronounced “pee-shyo”). It’s that fierce little creature with a dragon’s head, a horse’s body, and a lion’s paws — and for over 2,000 years, it has been considered the single most powerful wealth charm in Chinese culture. Here’s why, and how to wear one properly.
The legend of the Pixiu
According to legend, the Pixiu is the ninth son of the Dragon King. It loves the smell of gold and silver and feeds only on treasure. As punishment for misbehaving in the Heavenly Court, the Jade Emperor sealed its anus — meaning whatever wealth it eats, it can never release. From that moment on, the Pixiu became a symbol of incoming wealth that stays.
What a Pixiu bracelet attracts
- Wealth and unexpected income — bonuses, deals, business opportunities.
- Protection from bad luck and energetic “leaks.”
- Career growth, especially for entrepreneurs, traders, and salespeople.
- Gambling luck — yes, this is the traditional reputation, though it’s not a guarantee.

The right way to wear it
- Wear it on your left wrist — the receiving side.
- The Pixiu’s head must face outward (toward your fingertips), so it can swallow wealth from outside and bring it back to you.
- Don’t let others touch your Pixiu. It’s said to bond with one owner.
- Take it off when showering, swimming, or being intimate.
- Place it face-down at night, ideally on a red cloth or near your wallet.
Choosing the right material
- Black obsidian Pixiu: The classic. Strong protection + wealth. Best all-rounder.
- Gold obsidian: Stronger wealth attraction, especially for business owners.
- Tiger’s eye: Boosts confidence and decision-making — great for sales and leadership roles.
- Green phantom quartz: “Career stone.” Slow, steady financial growth.
- Citrine: Bright, joyful wealth energy. Good for creators and freelancers.

How to activate (“open the eyes” of) your Pixiu
Traditionally, a new Pixiu must have its eyes “opened” so it can see and find wealth for you. A simple modern method:
- Cleanse the bracelet under running water for 1–2 minutes.
- Hold it under sunlight for a few minutes (avoid for amethyst-tone Pixius).
- Whisper to it: introduce yourself, your name, and what kind of wealth you want it to find.
- Wear it immediately and consistently for the next 30 days.
What to avoid
- Don’t wear two Pixius facing each other on the same wrist — they’ll “fight.”
- Don’t wear it during funerals or to hospitals if you can avoid it.
- Don’t lend it out, even briefly.
Does it actually work?
Belief is part of the mechanism. A Pixiu bracelet works the same way any focusing tool works: it reminds you, dozens of times a day, of the financial life you’re building. That awareness changes how you spend, how you negotiate, and what opportunities you say yes to. The legend gives the symbol meaning; you give the symbol power.
