If the new moon is for planting seeds, the full moon is for the harvest. Its energy is bright, illuminating, and slightly chaotic — which is exactly why it’s perfect for seeing what needs to go and releasing it with intention. Here is a complete Full Moon ritual you can run in under 30 minutes, any full moon of the year.
Why the full moon is powerful
Astrologically, the full moon is the exact point where the Sun and Moon sit on opposite sides of Earth. Energetically, this creates a tension and release — the unconscious (Moon) is fully lit up by the conscious (Sun). Whatever you’ve been avoiding, the full moon tends to show you.
What you’ll need
- A candle (white preferred)
- A small bowl of water
- A pen and piece of paper
- A fire-safe dish or sink
- Your favorite crystals (for cleansing and charging)
- Optional: sage, palo santo, or incense

The ritual (7 steps)
- Cleanse your space. Open a window, burn sage, or simply sweep the floor. Play quiet music.
- Light the candle. Set the intention: “Tonight I release what no longer serves me.”
- Write a release list. Everything you’re ready to let go of — fears, relationships, beliefs, habits. Don’t edit. Keep writing until you run out.
- Read it out loud. Slowly. Each item. Feel the weight.
- Burn the list in the fire-safe dish (or tear it into pieces and flush). As it burns, say: “I release this with gratitude. I am free to receive what’s next.”
- Cleanse and charge your crystals. Place them on a windowsill under direct moonlight overnight. Avoid prolonged sun charging afterward for amethyst and citrine, which can fade.
- Rinse your face with the bowl of water (optional but beautiful) — a symbolic washing away.
Best crystals for the full moon
- Selenite: literally named after Selene, the moon goddess. The ultimate full moon stone.
- Moonstone: enhances intuition and feminine energy.
- Clear quartz: amplifies your release intentions.
- Labradorite: helps you see the truth the moon is illuminating.
- Black obsidian: protects you while you do shadow work.

What to expect after
The 24–72 hours after a full moon ritual can feel emotionally intense. That’s normal — it’s the energy clearing. Drink water, rest, and be gentle. Don’t make huge decisions on the full moon itself. Wait until the waning moon for clearer heads.
A note on timing
You don’t have to do the ritual at the exact moment of the full moon. Anywhere from 12 hours before to 48 hours after the peak is considered within the window. Pick the time you can actually show up fully — your presence matters more than the clock.
